Where’s the Windfall My Horoscope Promised?
What generic astrology forecasts lack
There have been many times I’ve heard an astrology forecast tell me that a wonderful blessing was coming. More clients. A lucrative contract. Some financial benefit that would make the month ahead look considerably better than the one behind me.
Then the month comes and goes. And when I look back, the win either doesn’t feel as grand as the horoscope’s description, or it doesn’t materialize at all.
If you’ve had that experience, I understand why you might begin to question astrology altogether. After enough predictions that don’t fully connect with your life, you start wondering whether astrology has anything useful to offer you. I’ve seen people get frustrated and discard astrology entirely after having this type of experience.
But when you get away from the generic horoscopes on social media, you find that the most accurate predictive astrology is a very personal experience. One that revolves around the exact specifics of your birth chart, which no month-ahead forecast on Substack sees.
What That Generic Forecast Can’t Tell You
Let’s take Jupiter in Leo as an example. It’s there now through late July 2027. For Cancer risings, Leo is the second house in Whole Sign houses, and the second house encompasses money, income, and your innate talents, among other associated topics such as self-worth.
Astrologers will typically describe Jupiter moving through the second house as a promising period for income growth. You might hear them utter phrases like “new clients,” “opportunities to earn more” or “raising your rates.”
Those are reasonable possibilities to explore. But the generic forecast for those with Jupiter transiting their second house hasn’t taken any individual planetary placements into account.
Let’s suppose Jupiter is moving through your second house while Saturn is making a close square to your natal Sun (natal = your birth chart).
That adds a completely new element to the glowing generic description you just heard on YouTube about all the wonderful opportunities coming your way.
You Always Have More Than One Thing Going On
Do you ever get that feeling that there is a LOT going on for you? And does life feel that way… most of the freaking time? Yep. That is because there IS always a lot going on.
Continuing with the example we started above, if you currently have Saturn squaring your natal Sun, it can correspond with some of the most challenging periods of your life when it comes to your self-confidence, vitality, and overall zest for life. How exactly that plays out depends on your unique chart and circumstances.
Perhaps an opportunity to earn more arrives while you’re already stretched by other commitments. You want to take it, but you’re struggling to find the time, energy, or confidence to follow through.
Or maybe growing the business requires you to take on responsibilities that feel much heavier than you expected and you can’t figure out why you so often feel deflated.
You cannot ignore that Saturn contact while describing Jupiter’s potential benefits. I’d want to look at both.
And then I’d want to discuss what you can do to help yourself.
Could you narrow the scope of an offer so you can deliver it properly? Set firmer limits around your availability? Give yourself a realistic timeline instead of agreeing to something you’ll struggle to meet? Get help with a responsibility as opposed to juggling everything on your own?
Addressing the limitations and demands associated with a particularly exhausting Saturn transit could leave you better able to get more from a growth opportunity associated with Jupiter. But you will need to grow more strategically than the generic forecast suggested.
I use astrology to identify possibilities and consider how to respond to them, rather than guarantee outcomes. There is always more than one thing going on in a chart. And in my approach to astrology, your choices matter, alongside circumstances you cannot control. Free will rules, no matter what the planets are doing.
Two people with Jupiter transiting their second house of money can have very different experiences because the other things going on with their chart will be entirely different.
And It Works the Other Way Too
You might hear a forecast say that Cancers have Jupiter moving through the second house right now and think, “Well, I’m a Virgo. Maybe this just isn’t my time to grow my income.”
That would be overlooking a lot!
Jupiter doesn’t have to be in your second house for your chart to show beneficial financial timing. Other transits can be relevant, depending on the planets and houses involved in your own birth chart.
In an upcoming post, I’ll explore other indicators worth considering when we look at financial growth, including some that receive much less attention in most astrology talks.
I don’t want someone ruling out an opportunity because their sign wasn’t on an astrologer’s lucky list.
You Can Start Learning Without Becoming an Astrologer
For more accurate and detailed forecasts, you can book a reading with yours truly, learn to work with your own chart, or combine the two.
You don’t have to study for years before you begin developing useful astrological awareness that will make a positive impact on your path, perspective, and choices.
Start with getting to know the sign and house of each of the planets in your birth chart.
Then learn how to follow a few key planetary transits to your birth chart.
Figure out where the eclipses are happening in your birth chart.
This is your starter kit. It gives you something useful to start working with.
Start with the basics, and add to it a little each quarter. There is no need to know every technique before you can begin asking more informed questions about your own timing.
You Cannot Give Everything Your Full Attention
One of astrology’s most practical uses, for me, is considering where to put my effort.
You cannot focus 100% on your business, relationship, health, home, and every other part of life all at once. Something has to receive a bit less energy while something else receives a bit more.
And the arrangement that worked last year may no longer make sense.
As planets move through different houses and contact your natal planets, astrology gives you a way to consider those changing priorities alongside what is actually happening in your life.
You may have spent months dealing with extra-intense challenges at home and now have room to pursue a professional opportunity. Or you might be pushing hard to expand your business while your health needs attention you keep ignoring.
What needs more from you now? What can you maintain without trying to advance it right this moment? Where are you still pouring all your effort because it once made sense?
This is what I mean by working with your timing. Your distribution of time and energy needs to change occasionally. You cannot expect one arrangement to serve you for years.
This Too Shall Pass
When I teach astrology, I always remind people that the planets keep moving.
Nothing stays the same forever.
During the toughest of times, astrology reminds us that “this too shall pass”. It brings comfort when you begin to see how your timing is changing in the months ahead.
For me, astrology is most effective when implemented alongside practical judgment and other esoteric wisdom. It helps me consider when to pursue something, when to adjust my expectations and where my effort will be most useful.
